SALICIA MAZERO, MA, LPC, ATR, CEDS-C

Salicia Mazero

Salicia received her Masters of Arts in Art Therapy from Drexel University. She is a licensed professional counselor, registered art therapist and a certified eating disorder specialist and consultant. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) and is working towards becoming a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP).

 

Over the past 10 years, Salicia has worked in two treatment centers focusing on treating eating disorders before transitioning to private practice and starting her own company Creating Your Journey, LLC. She is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and currently serves as the president of the St. Louis chapter and is in the process of creating a new non-profit in St. Louis for educating professionals on eating disorders. She previously served on the board of directors for the Missouri Eating Disorder Association and still a presenter for their Feed the Facts program educating students and teachers about eating disorders and prevention in the school system.

 

Salicia is a faculty member of the Ferentz Institute and the Expressive Therapies Summit. She recently co-authored a chapter on Art Therapy, IFS and EMDR in the book EMDR and Creative Arts Therapies. Salicia presents nationwide annually on art therapy, IFS, and eating disorder treatment.

TAMMY ROOT, PhD, MS, NCC, PLPC

Tammy Root

Dr. Tammy Root, a Nationally Board-Certified Counselor, holds both a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and also in Psychology. She has a PhD in Human Development and Family Studies from Penn State and worked in the Eating Disorders Program at the University of North Carolina. Tammy has worked on several eating disorders research studies, given numerous lectures on eating disorders, and has served as a research consultant for medical doctors, faculty, students, and staff. 

 

With nearly 20 years of experience in the eating disorders field, Tammy brings a wealth of knowledge specializing in eating disorders as well as family and relationship issues, substance use, and anxiety. Tammy is passionate about bridging the gap between research and practice to optimize the best client experience.

 

Tammy is a PLPC with Creating Your Journey under the supervision of Salicia Mazero, MA, LPC, ATR, CEDS-S. Tammy tailors her approach to meet the needs of the individual client, given that different ages, as well as different needs, require different approaches. Thus, she provides a personalized treatment plan that addresses specific needs to achieve overall well-being. She provides a non-judgmental and accepting approach to help find balance and healing. Tammy has a background in various evidence-based approaches to care, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, internal family systems, and more recently, somatic therapy.

 

Tammy is intrinsically motivated by helping others and hopes to contribute to the positive impact on the lives of others by providing support, tools, and guidance to help clients achieve their goals. 

KATIE MASON, MSW, LMSW

Katie Mason

Katie received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Louis University and Masters of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a licensed master social worker in the state of Missouri. She has previous experience working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence, as well as people with eating disorders. Katie is primarily interested in working with people impacted by trauma, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. Katie believes in the importance of trauma-informed and person-centered care. She uses an empowerment lens to facilitate a strong therapeutic relationship and to promote long-term success.
